About This Site

Savoyard Scores is dedicated to providing high-quality scores for Gilbert & Sullivan and related works.

After over 100 years, Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operas remain among the most popular theatrical works in the English language. Despite this, vocal scores for these operas have spent most of that century-plus in a fairly dismal state. Many lack the dialogue and stage directions. Many are reprints of early editions which employ a small, 19th century font, making them quite difficult to read. American-made editions often contained the dialogue and stage directions but were culled together from previously printed materials, with little editorial oversight. And nearly all of them produced after the 1920s incorporate changes made by the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, without the consent of Sullivan (d. 1900) or Gilbert (d. 1911).

Savoyard Scores uses late 19th and early 20th-century scores as principal sources of reference, and aims to present the operas as closely as possible to how Gilbert & Sullivan left them to posterity, in clear, complete, easy-to-read editions that singers and pianists will enjoy using.
